A young man invites his mother over to his newly purchased two bedroom apartment for Thanksgiving dinner. When the mother arrives, she notices a woman walking around the apartment. The son sees his mother looking at the woman and preempts the mother by telling her that the woman is merely his roommate and not to get excited. Disappointed that her son was no closer to marriage and kids, the mother sighed and sat down to dinner. The son prepared turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans and his special gravy. He served the gravy with a gravy boat and ladle that his mother had given to him when he moved out of the house. After dinner, the mother cleared the table and did the dishes. They all chatted for a while and the mother left. The next morning, the son and his roommate were emptying the dishwasher. The gravy boat was there, but the ladle was no where to be found. They both searched high and low for the ladle to no avail. The roommate was certain that she had seen the mother with the ladle and that she was the last one to have possession of it. Curious, the son called the mother and asked about the ladle. The mother answered the call and when questioned about the ladle replied to the son, "If she were really just your roommate, she would have found the ladle last night. I left it on her bed!"
