Looks like the hose for the speedometer..

If it's not being used you can disconnect it at the lower unit...

one of 2 things,,speedo tube like mentioned or its for the drive lube resivour..follow it and see where it leeds to..if it goes towards the front of the boat then its for the speedo,,if it goes to the resivour then their would be gear lube everywhere..

Drive lube would make sense since I noticed a drop in the level. But, wy would sea water enter through the hole?

Regards,

Johan

if your in the water i would pull the boat out and drain the lower unit,,you may have a bad seal and the drive is full of water..but like mentioned could be a speedometer tube as well...

Ok, thanks. Can I remove the fitting and replace it, or just seal it up?

X 2, From the photo it seems like corrosion may have set in then water pressure snapped it off the rest of the way.

To make the speedo work, (provided you have a stock set up) you'll need mercruiser part number 22-814382
Mercruiser Alpha Bravo Speedo Tube Connector 22 814382 | eBay

Item numbers 27 & 29,

What Boatally Insane said. Boat speedometers are not very accurate anyways. Mine popped off a few times and I finally just left it off. gps will let you know your speed allot better that your speedo ever will.

I agree with others. That is the "Pitot tube" for the boats speedometer.

More importantly. Since no one else has mentioned it. Ensure you repair it or cap it off. If not its a very interesting water leak! It will only leak when moving forward*...the faster you go the more water it will spray!

* - unless your boat sits low enough in the water that the water line is above that tubes height when sitting still. Then it will leak when sitting still in the water.
