I have to remove the previous owners registration letters and numbers.from my Imron painted hull . Oven cleaner and magic erase or eraser wheel have been suggested. Don't want to f up my paint. Are these the right way? Thanks.

Was going to suggest Oven Cleaner. Could also Wet Sand with a block. Just have to be careful not to sand too far into the Imron......

Oven Cleaner should not mess up the paint. We use it in our shop to remove hand painted pinstripe

What kind of paint are they painted on with? If it's just lettering enamel then Oven cleaner will work, just leave it on 2-3 minutes at a time, if it's on too long it can soften Imron and Gelcoat.

FYI--- If the numbers are close to the rub rail try not to get the oven cleaner on the plastic part of the rub rail, it can discolor it.

I would try a small spot first just to make sure it does not soften paint graffetti remover works too

Mine was painted with purple paint. Nothing, i mean nothing worked well enough for me. It took the registration number off but i could still see the old with the right angle. We ended up finding white rectangle with black number/letters inside at Meijers. It covered the old and only cost around $6 total for letters and numbers. Good luck!

Yea I'm sure it did but mailbox letters are ugly. I suggest sanding by hand until they are gone. Working up in grit as they disappear. That way you don have to worry about messing up the base with a chemical. Then finish with a high speed buffer with rubbing compound. That should get you down to the gel/Imron without messing it up any and the ability to paint or sticker over top just fine. It's the most labor I tensive but you get what you pay for.
