Default IMCO Lower with oiling modification?

While service my drives we noticed this modification any ever seen this before? Should I leave it? Seems I cant post pictures. The best I can describe it is a port from the oiling channel into the vertical shaft area.
Thanks
Steve

The very early Bravo drives did not have the oil gally feeding the pinion bearings. They did promote some oil flow from bottom to top via an oil port up at
the upper end of the lower unit in the area just below the small bearing cup bore in the driveshaft cavity. When I was working at Imco a long time ago we did
mods. just as you describe.
Hpoe this helps Mac
