You can use an auto pan but it will not be able to be drained from the top. I put one of these instead of a drain plug. http://www.amarket.com/imd042m.htm I then poke the hose out the bilge plug hole, then lower the hose. I dont spill a drop of oil.

Yep, both of my motors have the stock truck pans from L31 engines (96 to 99 model years). I use oil drain lines also. The lines are plugged with a brass stopper that has a 1/4" hole through the end. The sit up on my firewall and are secured with wing nuts. Undo them, push them through the drain hole and drain the oil, works great and they ar not left lying down in the bilge!
