This boat has a closed cooling system which is very old ...not working and a plumbing nightmare...so it's gone. Ive read quite a bit on crossover system's and they seem to be simple.. cost effective... efficient. Here is a crossover that seems to fit the bill.....http://www.cpperformance.com/p-13357...th-bypass.aspx Other than new tubing would i need anything more.
The engine 330hp 1987 454...new SEI drive...thru the hull exhaust.

Don't do it IMHO...Big Blocks run hotter than Small Blocks and you are already against the wind pulling cooling water thru an Alpha drive. Put a good high quality marine circulating pump on that motor and run it.

Intresting a closed cooling system is by no mean's more efficient than a pure raw water system how could it be. As to the sea water pump does it not by far out pump the block pump...Actually i would think the block pump hinder's the sea water pump...A bit like a low pressure fuel pump compared to a high pressure pump

what i did with my fwc in the hatteras was run the exhausts raw water and use the closed cooling for engine only. then the heat exchanger doesn't hafta reduce exhaust manifold heat, just flushes it out the back with riser heat. screw the manifolds. let em rot. you need the antifreeze to stop the heads from rotting through at the valve guides.

Is that pump as simple to install as it look's....Just bolt up to the flywheel and secure it with the this l- bracket

Any input would be appreciated. I would be installing a freshwater pickup and using the drive's pump for a shower......Or could i just pull water thru the alpha drive

yes that install is that simple. good pump too. crusader uses that design for a reason. i don't know how well it would pull thru the alpha. you mean with or without impeller in alpha drive? i am pretty sure the alpha upper is cooled with that water flow, so that needs to be considered. what would you do for shower? just let it spray inside transom assy? or fab some kinda fitting so it sprays back at top of drive?

Actually pulling thru the drive is a bit hair brained but this is all new to me so i asked. As to pickup's what would anyone recommend iv'e stated lack of experience and can see a potential for a perssure mismatch when running at high speed's...aka the pickup taking more volume than the pump can pull...
This is really new territory and i am trying to save myself from doing twice...maybe three time's.
Thank you dereknkathy

I have the same set up 454/alpha combo I had a bad clog in the tube coming thru the transom so I would get hot going thru a idle zone, fixed now. But still very curious about doing the same thing I like the pump just not sure what to use for a good pick up. I have been told not to pull water thru the alpha, that`s to bad it could not be that easy.
