Default Aluminum Powerboat 2x480hp, 2-speed transmission and surface drives

Hi guys,

I am building a powerboat from aluminium, finished the boat and the trailer structure and now working on the propulsion system.

This is my first thread and was hoping to have some feedback and advice on the below:
- Aluminum alloy stepped hull DWT 6Tons, length 46ft, WL 32.8ft
- 2x480hp, 2100rpm marinized Mercedes diesel engines V8 type OM442LA
- 2-speed gearboxes type zf 312TS ratios 1.703 and 0.83
- ASD11 Arneson drives with 28.5x57x5blades propellers

Anyone able to give a speed prediction to check it with mine.

Appreciate it

Would love to see photos. As for speed, I'm sure someone on here can give you that.

Blefever,
Sorry, do not know how to post here. I am new.
If you have a facebook account you can go to Asherat-Yam page.
I have posted some pictures there.
The structure is complete now, but did not take any photos yet. Will try to take some later.

I would guess 60-70mph for a top speed if the hull is well designed.

The face book page was well worth the look! Awesome boat can't wait to hear more.

Super cool thanks for sharing.

Welcome to OSO.

Create a photobucket or flicker account and upload your pics there then paste the link into a tthread here on oso. Or become a paying member on oso to post.

Might want to start a thread in the general boating discussion documenting your build.

Thanks Griff.
I calculated it to be faster, but as a test setup, I am ok with 60-70mph

I am happy you liked it.
I am working on it in my spare time, so it is taking me a lot of time, but my new year resolution is to have it ready for next summer for testing.

Guys,
I am using a lot of exotic material and parts that are very difficult to find here in Lebanon, so I am importing most of my needs for this build.
For the test drive, I am looking for two counter-rotating two-speed transmissions type ZF 312 TS with ratios 1.706 and 0.833.
If someone could help, I would appreciate it.

I'll get you a price for the transmissions later today!
