Default Boat weight.

Would like to get a ballpark weight on my 29 Mirage. The brochure claims 5200. That seems almost impossible. Not many 29s around so maybe somebody has weighed their magnum or 28 cigs. I weighed with the trailer at 9400. Trailer registration states weight at 2500. That puts me at 7000 with half tank and minimal equipment. Anybody have a chance to weigh a similar style boat? Wont have a chance to actually weigh my trailer till spring.

I think 5200 is hull with out motors/drives. I assume your trailer is steel. 2500 acually sounds a little heavy unless 3 axles.

Hi, I have a 1971 Magnum 27 Sport which is undergoing a major re-fit. I have a Pair of SBC 383 motors on Bravo ! drives and a lot of additional weight due to the new Teak deck and cockpit inlays.

As part of the re-fit I weighed the boat off of my Factory overhead crane via a spreader beam with a certified load cell.

With circa 20 gallon of petrol in the tanks total the boat read out at 2.81MT or 6182lbs if that helps.

Thanks Kalaazar, that helps. With more freeboard and cabin, My Mirage should be a little heavier than the sport. Throw in the trs drives and trannys and 7k should be about correct.

my 27 magnum starfire with trs, trannies, bbc was around 7k. now it has bravo's and no trannies so i assume a bit lighter but not much. i certainly rides like a heavy boat and crushes the waves beautifully. i had a 28 velocity that was 4600 lbs and you could tell it was light.

My first red 29' Mirage A-111 was a 1976 & was heaver than my white 1979 29'. The 1976 had small block Trs,, the 1979 had big block Trs. The 1976 Mirage of Just Bassin a oso member LaSalle P-111 has to be the heaviest one of them all as it has enuff fiberglass from the factory for two boats. I would say 7k would be a close number for your Mirage. Cig 28 has my white 1979 Mirage now, he has made it better than new & may have weighed it when he rebuilt it ?? Maybe Jim will chime in.

Thanks, these numbers are making me breathe a little better. I about had a heart attack when I had it weighed with the trailer. Could not find any moisture anywhere. Guess I will disregard the 5200 number in the sales brochure and carry on with the restoration. Should be able to yank it off the trailer in the spring and have the trailer weighed separate.

I have never weighed my Starfire but I think Cig92's numbers seem heavy to me. The factory stated 5000 lbs for a sport with small blocks so I figured around 5400-5500 for mine with big blocks. Like Mark said, layup can make a big difference, early Mag sports were heavier than later models. With 2 more feet and 6" more freeboard I would guess the Mirage would be 6000-6200. Maybe 6500 with some gas and gear, not that far off from 7000lbs.

Cig, I bought an old 32' Midnight Express that was originally from your area I think. It is grey with silver/gold/black stripes and had arneson drives. Do you know it? Love any info.

Thanks - Marshall
