Default Best Prop for Baja 272

Hello, I have had several Baja"s through the years and i just purchased another 272 with a bone stock 502 Mag Bravo 1. I took her out yesterday for the first time and noticed the 3 blade prop blowing out while getting on plane. My other boats were not stock motors or drives so i have no idea what size/style i should be running.
I know there are Performance trade offs, low end vs top end. I rarely run at wot i find myself running 32-40000 rpm range most of the time. I would just like to maximize the boats stock Performance with the right prop without modifying anything else.Or getting into a prop exchange program. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

can you post pictures.. I would like to see an engine turning 40,000 rpms.... lol

my 25ol loved the 4 blade B1 prop. 24p would probably be about right for your 502 mag. I had a 454mag and ran a 22p b1 worked with 23p. Best all around prob. Top speed would be labbed 23p M+, but a load out the hole will be slow. the 4 blade has a lot better feel than the 3 blade ever did. Easier to plane, never blew out and responded well to trim. i.e. press trim up and it felt mechanical, bow raised....

Do a search and you will find more then enough treads on this to get up to speed.

+1 Do a search, lots of info on this topic.

You prolly have a M+ 23 if it's still the stock prop. They SUCK stock like you saw, blow out easily and have high slip numbers. If you just want mid range cruise and hole shot for towing kids or whatever I'd look at the Rev 4. But the "best prop" on the boat is a Bblades labbed M+23. Does everything the 4 blade does, carrys the bow and is the fastest by several MPH. I loaned mine to a Baja brutha in KY with the exact same boat (me him and you) and he gained 7 MPH vs same wheel in stock form. If you want to spend the money let me know and I'll give you the info you need to have Bblades build one (lab your M+23) for you. He has exact computer aided measurments/recipe of the prop he just took last Fall when he had it in house.. Diameter is also a key for speed. Mine is cut down 5/8". Good Luck.

Use our test program to determine what fits your needs best. Since cruise is most important. 4 blade props are going to be your go to geometry. 5 blades will work but do have a ton of stern lift for a V hull like a Baja. If you want 5 blade technology, we will need to make sure the diameter is small enough.
If you want a bone stock propeller, I'd suggest the Revolution 4. If you want a Lab finished propeller, the Bravo 1 is tough to beat. Other options are the Turbo Fusion 4, 2+2 as well as others. Check our web site for other 4 blade options.

Thanks for your input, I looked at the prop today that is on the boat and it says 23p baja on it. It looks factory original. I think i will track down a 24p 4 blade and see how it performs. I have been on here in the past and the info i receive is usually spot on, Awhile back i purchased indywhsl baja 272 with the Procharged 509 and also a 29 Fountain Fever with a 700 hp.motor. I am just not used to keeping boats stock.
Thanks again for all the info.

If it has the Baja logo on it, it is from the mid 1990's and is more than likely stock. We etched that into the hub at Mercury back in the day. There is another thread discussing this now on this forum. Less the usage it has seen obviously.

Will this set up work on a 01 25 outlaw? Was running m+23. Great top end bud out of the whole sucked and cruising was poor. Now running a B1 22p. Nice but lost top end by 4 mph. Was thinking trying a Rev 4 23p

Lab Finish the 22 B1 if you have rpm room on the top. You could get most or all your speed back depending on the efficiency numbers.
