I am going to redo my stereo and need some help. Current set up is 8 6.5 Sony explodes, 2 Sony 6x9's and 2 8" Bazooka tubes. The system does not sound bad but it could be better. I want to replace all of the Sony stuff with Polk db651's and Polk db691's. The current system has 1 400 watt 4 channel amp running the 8 speakers and 1 400 watt 2 channel amp on the tubes. The amp running the speakers blew a channel at the end of the season so it needs to be replaced, so my question is, is it ok to run 8 speakers on a 4 channel amp or do I really need to have 2 4 channels to run all of the speakers? If they can be ran on 1 amp how much power do I need?

You need way more amp. You don't want the amp running that low of an impedance. Buy 2 of those amps and a separate one for your subs.

You are going to need more power if you want to use a 4 channel amp...make sure it is stable at the ohm's you plan on running. You really cannot have too much power. A multi channel amp will run cooler but will cost more and take up more space if you use one speaker per channel since it will be seeing a smaller load. One other thing that most people don't get, the more speakers you put in the worse it probably will sound. You will create phase problems and crossover issues with putting that many speakers in. Separation and phasing will be ruined. You may have better coverage with more speakers but it will not sound better and will not play louder. Use really high quality speakers and amplifier with the proper power source and a clean head unit and you will have a great sounding system. Only add speakers if you must to cover an area but don't add a bunch. Load the amps properly and you will have better efficient use of power.

Ok from what I see you have eight 6.5" two 6x9" and two subs.

A single 4channel amp should have no problem running the eight 6.5" looking at the specs you listed you would want an amp that is atleast 120 watts x 4 at 2 ohm. Just run 2 speakers per channel. Every decent amp made today will have no problem with this setup.

Now you rgoing to need an amplifier for your 6x9 and the subs. probably would need to get two 2 channel amps, but there may be a four channel that could do both. I need to know what you have in mide for speakers to answer that.

Ok like I said for the 6.5" speakers any decent 4 channel amp that will do 120 watts x 4 at 2 ohms.

For the 6x9" you need atleast 100 watts x 2 at 4 ohm.
