Default Replacing trim and drive indicator cables on Bluewater Performance panel HELP!

So I have all my cables apart, and the indicator panel out and apart. Problem is, I can't figure out how to get the cable ends out of the panel sliders. It appears that the only way is to unscrew the entire cable from the threaded plastic indicator knob.........Has anyone done this before? is there something I'm missing? If I have to unscrew all four cables and screw the new ones in, this will not be a fun project.
