Question How do you hot wire your motor on the floor ?

It's 1am and I'm firing the big motor up !! It is all wired . If I just put power to the "+" side of the coil and hook a battery to the starting solenoid that will do it right ?? It's late and things in my head are foggy from no sleep or food but the motor must run !! I don't want to hurt ignition system (thunderbolt) . So is putting power to the "+" side of the coil right ? I can't think straight right now .........

Yea, voltage to the coil. Ground to the block. Voltage to the starter stud. Hook up the fuel. Take the belts off. Take a screw driver and jump between the starter stud and the solinoid and it should light off.

Boot, ground the motor with the black jumper cable, put the positive to the large lug on the starter,. You will need two smaller jumpers one to trigger the solonoid ( it will be the 's' on the starter solonoid, sometimes there are two small lugs on em,the other one is usually 'i' for ignition you won't use that one) spin up a sh%* load of oil press. before you give the coil its connection. You should be good to test( mercruiser coils see 12 volts when starting ,then up to 14-17 volts max.) hopefully you have it tied down some how or you might be chasin' it out the door!!LOL just saw Cord's thread ,the screwdriver trick is a another way also to trigger the sol./starter ya, and be sure the water pump isn't spinnin dry it'll waste the bearing!

Hey Joe.....

I'm sure you know this, but disconnect hot wire from coil when you shut it off or you will fry the coil.

Let's get this thing running already!!!....You still owe me a ride

Well, did it work?? We (Team Chaos) do this every time we build a motor. Couple of jack stands under the front mounts and 2x4's under the rear mounts and it won't move. Stuff a garden hose in the water intake hose and you'll be fine. That way you don't have to take any belts off.

Don't forget to set the timing as long as you're running it.

Hey Dave, gong thru all my "stuff" yesterday packing for my trip and I find that I still have one of your jack stands. Oops. I'll get it back to you when I get back.
