Unfortunately Steve and the Sheik committed to the Turbine boat before Geico had the fire. They thought they were going to have some good competition. Well $1Mil+ into it was too late to turn back. Now they have a Kick Azz Boat and no one to race against, Same thing that happened to Geico. They thought they'd have competition as well... But any sanctioning body should let them run, its not like they where wanting the prize money, it wouldn't pay the fuel bill...But people would come to see it run...smdh..

I'm not saying it can't be done, but I crunched the numbers several years ago as we were considering it with a friends turbine powered 46 Skater and the fuel consumption was an issue for us. IIRC I think I calculated we would need about 450-500 gal of fuel. That's a lot of fuel and refueling would be pretty time consuming without some fairly specialized equipment stationed on the course.

qatar has a 3 boat fleet in the u.s. one of the cats is a 44 victory rigged this year with 1650's. for them to rig the (turbine) mystic with the same motors would be redundant. i'm not aware on an 1850 merc motor

So Qatar helped start a new series that takes the Sarasota race site, and in retaliation SBI eliminates the Turbine class at this years Key West race leaving the Qatar team no where to show case the turbine boat. ?. Sound about right?
