Default I want to build my own surface drive. arneson is too expensive for me.

Hello, I have been researching gearing in vdrive transmissions and they range but alot of them are 1:1 in thier final gear. a powerglide transmission for an automobile is also that. My idea so far(im sure it has been done before) is to add a custom thrust bearing on the end of the transmission cone, run a shaft with a prop right off of the yolk. I was wondering if anyone knows where to look for ideas.for the surface drive im thinking fixed. not like an arneson. using trim tabs for trim and a rudder for steering. also, this is just an idea so please dont hate haha. any information on the topic would be appreciated.

THANKS

Mike08K,

do you have a rudder system design in mind?

Would the rudder be retractable to allow for low water depth operation?

These drive shaft angles would have to be altered...but its an idea

You're going to need a fabricator, a machinist, an engineer, and all their tools/time. That couldn't possibly cost less than 15k.

How much of those assets do you already have?

Love that old 70s photo
They just needed to extend the drive a foot or so to get to clean water and it may have caught on.
