Look way to a 31' Sport Fisherman, and look at the bottom, I always thought that 38' raceboat wasn't that far off from basic design. Time for Charlie McCarthy. Bertram has made great Sport fishing boats

Bertram history.....http://www.bertram.com/timeline.cfm I am surprised it does not mention the 38' race-boat.

Yes, those are Bertrams. It started off as a Ray Hunt designed and built wooden boat, that Sam Griffith and Dick Bertram won the Miami to Nassau race with.

Dick Bertram then started a new boat co......Bertram ....and he built the boats in fiberglass.

They started as pretty wide boats and because of that found much favor with fishermen. They handled rough water very well and were built much tougher than the average boat of that era...1960's

One ad they ran in a magazine, showed a Bertram after surviving a hurricane that smashed the port it was in. The boat was tied up to a dock with a rope to the fore and aft cleats. The cleats never weakened, they just pulled the dock down when the winds got really high...tough.

Best boats made for normal people.....31 footer, 46 footer and 54 footer. Great boats.

The 38 footer that was designed and raced in the 1970's, really didn't have much in common... design wise with the older style. They built and raced it to prove they were still in the game and could build fast and tough boats

The Bertram 38 Compettion was a purpose built racing hull with 22 degree deadrise. They were built with cut down hulls from the cockpit forward, hence the beveled decks. Truly a beautiful boat and IMHO much better looking than the Cigarette 39 Comp with its funky deck angles in the stern.

There were only 17 of these built according to sources. One is sitting in FL and needs MAJOR resto. One is in NY with no transom.

Wannabe

Yo. What about my B38, still running strong after ten years of ownership. Hull and deck no stress cracks, all original gelling coat. Love my Bertram

they never made a race version of my hatteras, but my 67 was 46 years old when hurricane sandy hit. tore the docks up. went right up and over and back down on top of finger pier. wedged between 3 pilings. scratched up my paint job a little bit...

The old Vincentive is in ft. Lauderdale at Cadillac boats. If only we had the time.
