Looks like a Bob M special. Mine had that same copper colored plating on it. Any idea why it's on there?

The 60mm cams went in my bud's new motors

It's on there to prevent heat scaling during the heat treat process.

Thanks for that info OR. I'd never heard anyone say and I've only seen it on the billet pieces. I suppose the cam is ground after the heat treating?

Ken,

The cam is a 60 MM, 2304, vacuum degassed, carburized ,AQ, 8620 billet core.

Weapons grade

Thanks Bob, I corrected it, I'll touch base with you first of next week,...... the point of this photo is to show how massive the core & journal size is, compared to to the OEM.

Yes, ground and finished after final heat treat. A thin copper plate prevents having to grind through a carburized layer which can be somewhat thick. The plating would not be necessary if one used a vacuum furnace to heat treat but it's somwhat more costly.

That cam is a sweet looking part and like Bob said, strong and bulletproof.

I have put the 60mm in my motor but I used tool steel, Tommy from Cheif got them for me he claims they are strongest you can get and dont wear at all, seem to run good. Very expensive
