Hey guys. I currently have a 2000 6.0 gas suburban 2500. Gets 14mpg highway unladen. I will be towing 10k lbs boat and trailer, radar arch.
Any idea what mileage to expect?
I've also found an 07 cummins drw with a 6pd manual trans I'm interested in. Any idea what the unladen and towing mileage would be with this truck? It doesn't have a bed currently. I'm seeing if there is an economic case to be made here.
Thank you

Hogie- If you keep your speed down around 60 mph you should get about 7-8 mpg. I used to get 8-9 with my 8.1 but the 6.0 will be working harder. Stick with the 2500 Suburban. Air bags will help support the load. I also used a Hypertech tuner and used the Regular tune. Put 89 octane in it for towing.

I think you will feel a bit underpowered with that 6.0L gasser/4speed Auto on the Suburban 2500.
I think they were only rated for 9,000 lbs. anyhow.
One of the most important things you didn't mention though:
Axle ratio
What does the Suburban have? 4.10 or 3.73?
The 4.10 will give you a bit more grunt, but will hurt the MPG overall.

unladen meaning unloaded?
The diesels really shine highway unloaded , especially the pre emission ones.. 6 speed even better. Right now Diesel is cheaper than gas. Thats going to be short lived I`m sure.
Ive always wondered what the DRW takes away in MPG over a single. I think it`s at least 2mpg.

I just got rid of my srw duramax for a dually, same year trucks, gas mileage is no different between the two. in my duramax I see 20mpg highway and 14 towing close to 10k, and 12 towing 14k
I had a 2000 cummins 4x4 and I got 18 hwy with it and 13 towing 9k

+2 on the no noticeable difference between single wheel and dually. Lift kits and bigger tires will knock your mileage down, 2 extra skinny ones not so much. I'd say go with the cummins for all round performance and reliability towing. That 6.0l with an automatic is gonna be straining, where the diesel is just happily chugging along.
