Default 496 NA or SC?

Anyone use a 525 sc (177)blower on a 496? If so just curious what kind of numbers you were pulling? Currently Im close to 600 hp after getting valvetrain stabilized however the compression is just under 10:1.

I was debating on having valako open up the chambers (dart pro 1's) and using thicker head gaskets to try and achieve low to mid 8:1. These engines will only see short spurts at full throttle.

Let me know if you have any experience with!

Thanks,
John

I wouldn't get carried away trying to open up the chambers on a pro1 head. The deck of the head is already thin to begin with. The pro1's were designed to be a lightweight aluminum head. The race series is a much better head for this kind of work. Sounds to me like you are thinking about spending a ton of money for not much gain. It is an immense amount of work to properly open up all the chambers in a head.

Ok... Let's just change the original thread then. Has anyone had any experience with 525 sc blowers on a 496? If so what kind of numbers/results did you have.
Tks
John

454 is about as big of an engine a 177 is good for.it is just to small for almost 500 inches.

My PRO1's are about 128/9cc's. Jim does a lot of chamber ports give him a call, it can't hurt. And like others said the 177's I believe are a little small from my readings.
Oh, and Jim has 2 496 short blocks ready for assembly.
Did you receive the alternators all right?

Talked to him this morning. Ya he said could easily get 128 on the chambers. I kinda figured it wouldn't be advantageous with the 177's. will probably off them and look for a couple 250's. I pretty much figured the 177's would run out of breath as well as build to much unwanted heat. No biggy! Mean while they make great paper weights and a place to hang my jackets.

Mounted the Alts this morning. One of them sound a little gravely when I spun it but then realized one of the case bolts was backed out about 1/4". Tightened and seemed to clear it up. They look great. Sure they'll work fine. Tks for the quick shipping.
John

Will see v this week. A friend grenaded his blown mustang and sending him to Jims.
