Default Bearing clearances for a stock GM forged crank with H bearings

Im getting ready to put my short block together and wonder what bearing clearances to set the rods and mains at. The block is a 454 with stock 4 bolt mains. The rods are 7/16 forged dimple LS-6 rods. The crank is a stock GM forged LS-6 crank with std mains and rods. Im using H series bearings, a Melling 10778 oil pump, and RPMs will be max 5600. and the engine is a twin turbo 454 making about 600hp.

.003 with maybe an extra .0005 in the back. You should be fine.

I have heard .003 across the mains and .0025 - .003 on the rods. And what BB said holds true for the rear main - usually allow a little extra clearance here.

I think it was lunati had some good findings on the relationship between clearance rpm oil temp and bearing surface temp on some various bbc builds . That should be a midrange torque monster there especially if its intercooled

Loose clearances, lots of thick oil is my motto... my mains are .0030-.0033 1-4, and rears came in at .0040 rods .0025-..28 they vary because it's Eagle parts.... I run 20/50 Vr1 and 14 QTs....

that is an 8 qt pan and a good one for your application.i asked because the 10778 is a high volume pump and a 7 or 8 qt pan will keep you from sucking it dry.i would not use a 10778 pump with a 5 qt pan and i would be worried with a 6 qt on long wot runs.
