Here's a quote from the article...

"Begaye said the plume of sludge has made its way into the San Juan River and is wending through the Navajo Nation, the nation's largest Indian reservation. It is expected to reach the heavily used Lake Powell by Wednesday."

And another quote from a Denver newspaper:

"In addition to New Mexico, wastewater from the mine was also inching toward Utah.

The Animas flows into the San Juan River in New Mexico, and the San Juan flows into Utah, where it joins the Colorado River in Lake Powell".

so far the EPA is down playing the effects (big shock). if this was caused by a private corp what do you think the EPA response would be? last I heard (a couple hours ago) the EPA claims that the lead edge is almost unnoticeable and that the river is nearly back to clear. I am sure the water looks great from DC.

I'm hoping it dissipates before getting to far south but I won't be surprised if it doesn't. From what I read earlier it seems like it is a blob working it's way south and slowly clearing up some behind but who knows.

Watch something tonight, clearing behind is not really right. The water looks a little clear because all the heavy metals and such sank to the bottom.

Not gone.

Best way I could word it. I heard that too, just trying to find any bright side to this if there is one.

Not that any of this disaster is funny, but it's been entertaining to see the EPA use the very same tactics to downplay this whole mess that they give everyone in the private sector crap over all the way from the smallest of small businesses to the largest of corporations. If it's anything like here in KY, they probably had some fresh-out-of-college kid supervising the whole show with no experience other than what he heard in an online lecture. I think they like to recruit young people because they can brainwash them with their bs agendas that much easier.

Also, heard/read somewhere that the mine is still leaking 500 gallons a minute!, BUT the EPA is TREATING it on site, and then releasing the TREATED water.
