Converting Triple engines to twins, whats involved? 42ft fountains
#1
I have been seeing a bunch of 42ft fountains with triples for what seems like real good prices. I was just curious what is involved with converting triples to twins? Do the two outboard engines stay in the same position? I'm assuming after you removed the middle engine you would have to do some stringer work. Also, remove the third outdrive and exhaust tips, patch up all of the holes, replace the dash and throttles for twin setup. Has anyone else done this themselves?

Don't be scared of trips! Get them reliable and have a awesome riding rig. My brothers old trip 42 was the best riding boat I've been in. I like my stag 525s but wouldn't pay the money for the change. That is my .02.

I was thinking if I ever went that route that I would pull the third engine and drive, keep them as backups or even sell them and do a refresh on the current motors that it would have. It just seems that you see real good deals on the triples more often than the twins. Probably for that very reason that most just want twins.

I have my triple since july 15th... Almost 50 hours done! Not that bad on gas between 15 and 22 gallons per hour up to now...dont know what the same boat would burn in twin but i have the feeling it is not more thursty than my 38 twin...

15 was based on my vacation trip of 36 hours both canal and open water for 3 engines combined
another ride of more open water at cruise speed wich is 3300 rpm for 47 mph it ran 22 gal an hour for 3 engines combined
