Went to down to my boat this evening and noticed the smell of gas in engine compartment . Upon further examination noticed very little fuel leaking from the very bottom edge of the cockpit bulkhead. Inside the engine bay I understand I'm going to have to replace tank does anyone have experience with this repair and how much do you think it would be

I believe someone in the past mentioned that it cost them $5000 to have a professional do the job for them.

tuffenuff - the inspection panel isn't large enough to remove the tank so we used to remove the entire cockpit floor by carefully cutting around the perimeter. Once the floor is out, you can remove the tank etc. I have the dimensions for a 63 gallon tank - should fit your boat - let me know and I can send them to you. I used Sunshine Tank in Miami for mine - and I believe they have the dimensions on file. The tank shouldn't be more than $800. The glass repairs shouldn't set you back much either. $5K is way too expensive

Thank you for the response. I have gotten 2 estimates both were around 2500 including the tank and new hoses witch I feel is more than fair. Both prices are from very reputable company's here on Long Island.

with a reasonably built bbc... a 65 gallon tank wont take you to far....

Can anyone tell me if the back engine compartment bulkhead needs to be cut to angle the fuel tank out? Or is there enough room to lift straight out

Do you mean that you Will try to pull the tank out from the engine room?
That wouldnt had worked in mine without cutting the bulkhead.
Instead I cut the floor in mine and lifted it straight out. Like Charlie JR said.
You need to fixate the tank when you put it back.
So it doesnt move around when you hit some waves.

Before the tank craked it ran 84mph. Added tube headers. And just added hydraulic steering but haven't had a chance to see the difference in steering yet I noticed the smell of gas wen it was on the trailer to take it to my friends house to have the steering installed. Can't wait to get it fixed! I had one estimate on the tank he said rear bulkhead would have to get cut to tilt tank out. I'm hoping it can be done by just cutting the cockpit floor. If what you said in the previous reply is true and I have no reason to doubt you at all the tank can be lifted straight out after removing the floor. Thank you for your reply it helps me a lot.
