Default Who does good job on Carburetor Rebuilds?

Hey All,
Looking for someone to clean and rebuild my carb from a 525SC please. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Do yourself a HUGE favor and buy a new one. In my humble opinion (and experience) anything that is rebuilt is rarely the same as when it was new.

Ken Jones in Centralia IL. He is a legend around these parts, and in his own mind.

They are pretty easy to rebuild yourself.

Fact: The first carburetor my wife (she was my girlfriend at the time - this helped me want to keep her.LOL) rebuilt was the exact one the OP is asking about. The boat had twin 525SC's. I did one while she watched and did the other.

The only thing special on this carb when getting a rebuild kit is that you'll have to get high flow powervalves seperately. You do not want to use the standard flow powervalves that come in most kits.

I get my rebuild kits from allcarbs.com they do come with the high flow 6.5 PV's . Or , if a different PV is needed, they have the high flow ones in stock in all sizes too. And reasonable.

For me the best thing to do during an overhaul is completely disassemble the carb, then let it soak in solvent. I have a 5 gallon pail of rot gut solvent from NAPA that works miracles on gummed up carbs. Depending on how bad they are, I will soak them from 1 hour to 8 hours. It works miracles on gummed up main bodies and metering blocks.

Edit in: This is the stuff I use - http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...406_0410678711

It is good stuff, not as good as the old stuff before the EPA got their hands on it.

A couple of hundred years ago when I was younger, some of the 'old' guys would put antifreeze in a pot and boil it with carburetor parts in it. Hmmmmm.

Have you ever thought of going in on an ultrasonic cleaner with a local ? Ha !
