I have owned 4 Baja's, a Scarab, a Formula, and a Sonic while being in the performance boating community. The Scarab was the most likely to be considered a fast boat in my eyes. It was a 31 Viper flat deck model. Pretty much a race boat. But the Baja's seem to have a lot of cockpit and cabin room. And they are well........affordable. I am sure I am not the only one who thinks $40K is at the top of the price range and then we can build power.
Soooooo.........I currently have Ron Sporl built power in my 280. Still prop testing and have to do something with trim pumps but the boat will run upper 70's with 5 people. I really want something that will run mid 80's with my power.
Without being crazy, is there a twin Baja that will run mid 80's with 1100 hp????

The 30 Outlaws ran about 80 with 496 HO's, but a friend had one and said it got real loose at that speed also.
The 29 Outlaws had deeper X was more stable but a little slower. Another friend has about 700hp a side and runs upper 90's with his 29.
The 33 is a lot more boat though and I'd go that route over a 29 or 30.

78 all day long in my 35 with 525's, not WOT. Drop the passengers, gear, coolers, 100gallons of fuel, and low to mid 80s.
My 30 did 78 WOT. Love the Baja's for the cabin and cockpit room/comfort, and handling in chop. Didnt buy it for the speed.
There will always be a faster boat on the water, a louder stereo on the water, and so on......

AS a recent purchaser of a '96 Baja 302 it seems I'm with the common Baja owner on comfort. I wanted a offshore (design) powerboat (the noise) but with creature comforts. Compared to the Formula of the same vintage and length the Baja is HUGE! I'm sure it has to do with the bulbus shaped forward hull and extra 1' width.
d At 6'1" I can almost stand in the Baja, I was bent in half in the Formula's cabin and it was way narrower as well. With a fridge, sink, and burner counter as well as a porta potty head (locker) the Baja still seems much larger. In the cockpit you can actually walk around while the Formula you had to turn in place. Seems I'll be able to seat 3 across the bench, 1 behind each bolster seat, 1 in each bolster, and 1 between each bolster seat if I want to.
Powerwise, 660 total hp should keep me entertained for awhile being it's my first boat. Not to mention it's for family enjoyment, no reason to scare the wife, in-laws, 'rents etc. If I want to get the need for speed out of my system I'll hop on one of the 3 sportbikes and do a trackday, or take a drive on a back road in the low 10 sec. hobby car.
Baja226sport,
I'm with you on the price range. While I can afford a 6 figure vessel I dont' see it providing me with return on investment difference over where your top range sits, which just so happens to be mine. I'm also happy that I came in at half that price on the boat mentioned above.
