This is exactly why we started HORBA. To save the old race boats before they are cut up and thrown away....and....to find venues where the boats can be seen and heard again by a generation that only has some old black and white photos to judge them by.
The Formula 233 from 1963 that was Don Aronow's first race boat that he called.....The Cigarette, Billy Martin's big Orange 39 footer called Bounty Hunter, the 38 foot Needle Nose Bertram, the 47 foot Apache with triple engines in New Jersey, the 28 foot with the 6 foot beam that Don called his Banana Boats, now called the Other Woman, the old 36 foot Cigarette that raced as Slap Shot was recently sold as Black Pearl with no engines or drives. etc. etc. etc. Plus the 35 Cigarette raced by Rocky Aoki called BENIHANA and the 32 Cary owned by Peter Rothschild that is being restored as The Cigarette.
These boats are worth saving, they were the foundation our sport and our high performance boating lifestyle was based on Many of the original racers have passed their final finish line, but there are still a few of us around that can still weave a story or two that will be happy to add a little color to your life....Thank You Brownie!
Find yourself an old boat and get to work, it will be one of the best projects you will be involved in.
