Default VST or Aeromotive?

Thinking of trashing my VST on my gen VI 502 mag after it failed me again this past season. Seems like every other season I have to tear it apart and fix it. Thinking of going the Aeromotive route, 100micron filter before the pump, 10 micron filter after the pump, run the new line to the fuel rail, remove and cap the stock regulator. Then return from the rail to a new adjustable regulator with a return to the tank. Removing the mechanical fuel pump from the sea pump install block off plate. According to the power planer on the Aeromotive site this should be enough to feed 700hp, currently I have mostly stock power but leaves me some room for future upgrades to the motor.

Should I keep the merc fuel filter/water separator ?

Any other brands of pumps and regulators should I look at?

Personal preference, Weldon regulator, stainless filter before the pump, this filter after the pump, http://www.ramcoperformance.com/flomax300M.htm

I have an aeromotive A-1000 pump on my mustang. When I was building my house, the car sat for a couple years and the crap fuel we have these days fouled up the pump. I was WELL out of my 1 year warranty, but still sent it in for repair. The guy on the phone said they would fix it and call when it was ready. 1 week later it was on my doorstep with an invoice that said $0.00 due "thanks for the business".

That's great service!

Oh yeah, the pump has been flawless for several years now. Mind you, it's in a drag car that doesn't see long run times.

I would get rid of the VST completely and I have had good luck with the Weldon products thru out the years.

Should have done this years ago, wish the marine tech suggested it before I paid for the new electric fuel pump at $650! Pretty much is why I try to fix my own boat now.

Did you guys get rid of the merc fuel/water separator and just use the aero filters?

I use the merc fuel/water sep upstream of the pump and the aero on the discharge side.

I have an unused 100micron filter if you're interested.
