Default Hyd steering filter

I'm in the process of mocking up some misc items for my hyd steering sys.
Looking at the filter, I can't tell which connection is the inlet or outlet.
I can't find any lettering on it at all.
Any one have one of these type filters?
Are the filter elements available?
Are they normally replaced after a certain amount of time?

They don't flow both ways! Almost hooked a 31' with backward filter.

This filter was purchased "used". I really don't want hook it up backwards and flush any trapped debris into my sys.

If you look at them, the end with the bolts is usually marked "out."

X2 the end with the bolts is the out going to the helm. the other end is pressure in from the pump/pumps

Good deal. I was hoping the ports were arranged that way. The helm hose length will work out perfect with the place I selected to mount the filter.

I re-checked the filter and there's no stamped lettering on it at all. Maybe it was printed at one time??

I have one (for sale) that I noticed it is stamped on one end. BUT this one differs from yours, in that it opens at the end with the flats. Yours opens at the opposite end.
