400ss really hard to steer! what to look for? ideas tips help. i have had go fast boats up to this point and they had full hydro steering. so when i first got this boat i just thought it was like this but my buddies 400 steers easy. is it a cable back to the motor? what to look for or has anyone else had this issue? any ideas help be great

Steering is different on them. Do you have auto pilot? If so you should have a hydraulic helm

I had a similar issue last season coming out of the winter. Was just binding. I thought I needed a new steering cable. I ended up pulling the cable from the steering box under the helm cleaned the gunk off it. Added some new grease and she turned better than ever.

Have the same issue with mine. Seems better with warmer temps but everything i've read leads to disconnecting the cable from the back hookup (not sure term) and test. I will try the helm first and go from there due to the easier access.

What year is your buddies 400SS?
