I'm surprised I have not heard Boat US getting involved -- depending on how this turns out it could make a 10-15 minute trip a couple hours!!! Proposed Saginaw River no-wake zones and re-evaluation of current laws.

That's why I'm glad we are keeping the new boat down at Bay Harbor. Avoid all that crap and the excessive water patrol "safety checks." I do hope they follow through and re-evaluate several miles of no wake between Bay City and the mouth. IMO it should only be no wake in the city and in front of the marinas/launches. Rest is no longer necessary due to how the river is no longer being used by much of the industrial zone through which it flows. 9 miles of straight no-wake zone along with being excessively patrolled and enforced is just too much now. I figured that it was just a matter of time before they made that a no-wake zone in front of the Uptown development.

I had my boat there last summer as my in-laws live on the river only a short walk from that photo. I couldn't believe the no-wake zones. There is absolutely no reason for the majority of the #4 and #5 zones.

Sorry officer, I thought the sign said "No Wait Zone". This looks like a ridiculous law, all I can see is steel and concrete break walls yet they want a no wake zone? I could understand if there where piers or docks or moored boats but there is no reason I can see in any of those photos....those must be high dollar condos going up and a high powered city council member bought one and doesn't want to listen to through hull exhaust a WOT lol, that would be my guess.

Thant's just horrible! If erosion is the issue, that should be addressed. Bay City Yacht club sure looks like the place to be given these restrictions.

Should just be a 35-45 mph speed limit. The big cruisers plowing at "no wake" speeds make more wake than lots of our boats running on plane.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with a wake, it's a noise thing, trust me the same thing happened on portions of the Fox River near me and the root cause was noise. 25 mile per hour winds whip up more waves than a boats wake.

While I agree 100%, people don't know that no-wake actually means no-wake, not slow down. That's always 1/2 the damn problem. But you are totally right, all these larger boats are going to slow down, make things worse, and give the fuzz more reason to ticket and harass everyone.

The whole thing just sucks. They are going to re-evaluate the "old" no wake zone next year possibly, but until then this is going to make a LOT longer trip in that area. I for one won't make our usual trip in the summer if it takes that long. I'll just head to Houghton Lake and actually use a pontoon boat, instead of using a powerboat idling like a pontoon...
