Default 496 Sea Pump Repair Kit $100

Just thought I'd share a repair kit for the 496 Sea Pump @ $100 vs a new pump at $700+

I installed this kit over the winter. Original bronze housing was worn. Nice kit, laser cut stainless wear plates, shorter impeller to make up for difference in wear plates. Rubber consistency of impeller was same as oem Merc from the feel of it. First startup it visibly moved more water out the tips at idle. I'll do a long term review.

I sure hope they ship fast, just ordered mine yesterday. This kit was already in my Sea Pump from the previous owner, couldn't figure out where it came from (wasn't OEM that's for sure) till I did a web search and found it, my impeller failed me Monday. It's a great alternative to a new pump but wish I knew too what the life span was.

One other question, while I have the Sea Pump off/out should either of the 2 lines (intake & output) be flushed using a garden hose ? Any benefit to doing that at this time ?

Yes you must remove all hoses and find all the broken pieces of the impeller. They get stuck in the coolers and will affect cooling.

100% of the impeller pieces have been accounted for just in the pump disassembly (lucky me), just wondering about back flushing the fuel and power steering lines ? The Heat Exchanger is spotless.

Thanks

That's good all missing pieces are found. I flush everything with the garden hose yearly. Part of winterizing routine. Start at HE, oil cooler. Ps cooler, water pump in, out lines. Don't flush to the whole system at once. Break down the hoses and flush each individual part. Curious now to see how much psi my new pump setup is making. I'll hook up the scan tool this weekend and post some numbers.

you need O rings to for the end caps bolt and stud and you need grommets for the crossover that the heat exchanger ports sit into.

Yes sir BUP, all on order and will be here Monday morning for the reassembly. Pump is back on the motor after rebuild. I was able to flush out quite a bit of small wood particles, more than I thought I'd find. A new Sea Strainer has also been ordered for the install which should allow the impeller to maybe live a little longer and keep me from having to back flush again, as that was a P.I.T.A. to do, allot of hose clamps to undo not to mention that some hoses were a bear to get off.
