Carfax can be a joke. If it was never public record it will not be reported. If your concerned about previous damage take it to a body shop if you can not spot it yourself.

I know what you mean. I just use it as a tool to see where the vehicle has spent it's life and to keep the sellers info honest. I'm probably going to pas on it anyway. Looked at it today and it just didn't grab me.
