Can any one tell me where to look for the oil temp pick up om a 496 mag HO?

Do you mean temp sensors? I do not believe they came with them from merc so they'd be added via previous owner or possibly from factory if requested on build. More than likely it would be to the rear of the portside head just below it or possibly on a npt port on the remote filter adapter.
