damn port side engine started to move up on temps over the weekend.. did a flush and recorded it and you can see that the port side is NOT pushing the same amount of water out the pipes.. So my question is, is anyone running the Hardin Marine upgraded water pumps on your 496ho's?

I like how its beefier and using wear plates.. any input would be great.. I want to move on something this week..
thanks

Is it safe to say the impeller is intact? if not check, hoses and oil cooler for rubber parts that could be blocking water flow.
Are the steel pumps any better than OEM stock? OR, is the premise that you will save enough with steel units on the unit rebuilds beause the OEM rebuild cost is higher and the OEM unit is a wearable unit that will need to be replaced over time because it is wearable (as are the wear plates on the hardin unit are - and wear plates are a lot cheaper than a new unit).
Question - in the hardin unit, do bearings ever go bad resulting in the need to also replace the hardin unit?

I replaced ours with the Hardin pump also and like it. I have found a rebuild every 2 years or 100-120 hours is required. The impeller has taken a compression set at two years (my personal observation and not limited to the Hardin) and the wear plates are severely worn at the 100-120 hour mark.

These brass pumps are really a pain. I had a 2004 30 Outlaw. The low water pressure sensors were directly on the pump which caused all sorts of alarm codes when running in rough water/chop. It would throw the port motor in guardian (5%) power which was fun at WOT. My 2007 30 Outlaw has the low water pressure sensors relocated on the power steering cooler, and the X dimension was lowered (I think 2005 forward) and this boat has been fine. I have replaced the impellors at the 3 year mark/100hr and the housings were in good shape. I am so careful when going to islands/sand etc. I miss the old throw away plastic housings where you just replaced the hole kit.

I am working on a stainless back for these pumps. Moving the water pressure sensor back to the PS cooler is a good idea and would save me some machining. Did the later coolers have this threaded port or was it a separate fitting?
