Too bad they didn't decide this earlier, yes later is better than never, so it may have tempted others into prepping and running in it. Hopefully they keep this award and see what happens in the following years.

That boat reportedly has reached 120 mph. The question is: Can it get there in a mile? I was chatting online with a friend the other day, and I reminded him that at Powerboat magazine (seems like a million years ago now) we used to chew up miles and miles water, in multiple passes, to get our top speeds.
Whatever single-engine V-bottom takes Top Gun honors in that class this weekend, the Shootout organizers were smart to add that award. It's definitely created a ton of buzz, which has to be good for that class and people who are building (or will be building) products for it.
