Talking to a friend, manual oil tempcontrol came up, like using a valve to manually control how. I how much oil goes to the oil cooler and not using the mi h more expensive stat, just needs to be plumbed in, rounds round circle guys use this system to control oil cooling, has anyone tried this in marine? Makes sense then I can control less oil to cooker in may when lakes cold and open it more in summer when it's warmer...

get a cooler bigger than your needs and thermostatically control the oil,,been working that way for me and all my boating friends for years,,ocean and lakes are ever changing loads on the hull,,roundy round isn't.

No no no. Run the oil lines up to the helm and mount the control valve right by the throttles. I would use the type with a round nob. Like for a garden hose. Heck probably just use garden hose for the oil lines. Make sure you get the temperature rated stuff. Make sure you use 5/8" hose as well. Don't want to restrict flow.
