Hi all,
Happy New Year
I was fortunate to be able to be part of the Key West Pokerrun last November. What surprised me was the calm conditions driving from Coconut Grove to Key West. We were passenger in a NorTech 39 CC with 3x400R, but I am sure my ol queen Phantom 25 could have handle it easily.
So we are now looking at the possibility to freight my Phantom 25 from Norway to Miami, and have it in Florida from October until March. And be part of the above pokerruns. It would be a a dream come through
The boat is a offshore race hull from 1985. Phantom 25 was the major player in the European circuit in the 80 ties known to handle the rough very well. I have a link to a video here and you see the picture : https://www.facebook.com/groups/95368811857/ . With a new 400R I expect it to run 86-88 mph. It cruises very well at 60 mph.
Are the conditions normally as it was last year in November Key West run for the above pokerruns? I presume it can be rough, but as far as I have seen in videos and pictures, it seems calm

The trip to KW from Miami can be much rougher than you experienced. Normally Biscayne bay is flat calm other than wind chop. I have seen it on a nice day 3-4', most of the time its flat. The run below gilberts is mostly protected water. You can choose to run Florida bay side or Atlantic. Depends on the wind direction. Below marathon 7 mile bridge you also can run inside through Spanish channel or outside in the Atlantic. In certain winds both sides are rough 4-6'
Its just pick your day or stop along the way and wait for your perfect day. Wind forecasts for these areas are usually spot on.

So we can choose the inside og outside depending on the weather running the poker runs. I think we will be fine then.

I've personally seen a 25' Active Thunder do the Key West Poker Run and it came back in looming hurricane conditions.
Running "the inside" of Biscayne Bay is usually doable in just about anything over 20 feet or so.
The only gotcha is the last 30 miles or so of the typical run to Key West is on the outside in the ocean. That can get a bit rough.
As for the New Years Run, that's all in the Gulf, and the Club is always cognizant of water conditions. They will adjust the run based on conditions.
