I see so many boats that are a little bit over 8'6" like a 47 fountain, a 442 Baja, and many more are an extra few inches to 12" more than 8'6". Do people just tow and not worry?

Stay off state turnpikes and you shouldn't get hassled.

I live in CA, dont even know what a "turnpike" is.

Even a Scarab 38 AVS is 8' 9". Maybe they figure no one notices. Sure would stick to get pop for that.

Pull a wide load annual permit. In Ca. It costs $90.00. If you are under 10' wide you will have virtually no restrictions and you will need to fly no wide load signs or flags. Overall length of truck and trailer can not exceed 65'. At your width you will not get a second look.

Hauled a 38' Express w/11' beam, passed 2 local Leo and one Tx DPS state trooper w/no issues. That was on a Sunday where, I believe most restrictions are relaxed but ck your state DOT/permit regs.

Never had a problem towing 10 wide until I tried to go through the Chesapeake tunnel 20 Years ago.

Have a 442 and was towed from Pa to Fl with no problems. Also has been towed around Fl quite a few times and with no problems. Have a Topkick for a tow vehicle
and have over length permit for 78' long as a precaution. Where will you be towing? Also towed a 42 Fountain through GA, AL, MS, LA,TN, KY, and FL with same tow vehicle
and never had any problems. I think the key is as long as it is your personal boat for recreation.

We haul for a living. Not to bad to get wide permits in most states. There are services to help to. If you tangle with a DOT leo (not recomemded) they can measure you and fine you. Also keep in mind if your over 26k combined registered weight or actual weight they could impound you for no license if you dont have a CDL. (Different in each state) Just worst case. Over 9'/ 9'6" or so you start to take a lane and look big. What states are you going through?
