So I see it thrown around a lot about upsetting a boats center of gravity.
I'm not talking race boats running as hard as possible in all conditions, but pleasure boats in normal use.
How many guys have made changes that actually drastically changed the way the boat handles? I've been in and run a lot of different boats. I've seen ONLY 1 that was adversely affected.
Personally I think it's all bs and negligible unless DRASTIC changes are made with no common sense used.
Examples
O/l 37 stiletto
Side by side bravo
Stag bravo
Triple bravo
Stag 6's
Stag 5's all great boats
42 fountain
Same as above
38 top gun straight bottom
Side by side trs
Side by side bravo
Side by side 3's,4's,5's6's
Stag 5's
Stag 6's (lock and load)
Never mind some have boxes some don't.

My old boat, trs, bravos on boxes, bravos on the transom, ssm3's on transom
I ran it with bravos and 3's no way was it I'll handling in either setup. Rough water, calm water, tight turns (full lock 60+mph)
Only boat I have with my own eyes seen with a bad cog is a 28 saber that the fuel tank was put vertical behind the rear seat, big blower motor and Konrad drive on a box. That damn boat looks like it's in a sea world show.
Has anyone that preaches about cog being screwed up actually experienced it?
All except one instance I haven't.

How could I forget all the 41 Apache configurations!
Large bail compartments, kilo compartments, pleasure cabin, etc

I installed an A/C unit in the cabin of my Fountain. The only thing I noticed, was it makes the cuddy cooler when sleeping.

I added 350lbs to the stern of my boat last year. The only think I noticed, is it sits a tad lower in the rear when tied up to the dock.

I think you're talking about 'center of balance' not center of gravity ?

Good post, I didn`t want to be an ass in the other thread but my boat came with TRS and some 400hp engines. Now the engines significantly heavier, along with extension boxes and #4 drives. Handles just fine.
Then I shortened the gas tanks by 4' so now the fuel doesn`t get a chance to be as far forward, I`m sure that changed CG but I only actually noticed an improvement.
But what do I know ..

Center of balance would be a more correct reference to it but guys always say cog.

I still have fresh water and ****ter tank in the bow , if I fill those with water (as designed) I can report what changes it makes.

Center of balance... center of gravity Gravity is a force. balance is an action, So gravity is the force that allows balance to take place.

On a race boat the CG is critical and changed almost every race with movable weight. Big water you go forward with weight for balance and flat you go back with weight for speed. On a pleasure boat there are to many variables on any given ride ( passenger location, gas load, coolers loaded, anchors ect. ) Your trim tabs and drive are in a sense what is controlling your CG on a pleasure boat IMO. You may not like the effect of going slower but that is what is balancing your boat. So I believe manufactures have a good idea where the CG should be but realize It would be impossible to maintain that based on they sell a product with many option with different weights so an average must be used on designing pleasure boats IMO

We do the same with the class 6 boat, moving weight to minimize tab and drive adjustments.
