Question Big Block timing mark?

Hi all,

I'm a bit new to big block engines and now I need to check and align the timing in my engine. Just wanted to make sure is this red marked piece supposed to indicate the TDC?? I just haven't seen this kind of structure structure before (..even in the pictures) so just wanted to make sure.

Thanks

Some merc engines need to be put into "base timing mode" to set timing.
