Good morning guys, trying to get advice on an exhaust setup for my powerquest. In the middle of my 540 build and took everyone advice and got rid of the Gil exhaust I had and got a pair of lightining headers. Im gonna be running a 741 cam in them motor and have been advised to run dry exhaust. Just seeing what would be the best way to setup the tails. Im sure there are a few ways to do it. My lightning headers have a 4" inside pipe that come out about 2 inches further then the jackets. Would it be best to cut 5" holes in the transom and have a 4" pipe welded onto the headers and extended out the back then just slide 5" pipe over that and clamp it to the headers.... or is there a better way to set this up. This is all new to me I also have shotgun silencers that need to clamp onto the 4" pipe. Just getting people opinions on what works and doesnt work. Thanks

I was running that 741 cam in my 650 HP 509's, Lightning standard headers with NO reversion. I dumped most of the water overboard instead of through the headers. I ran just enough water to keep the connector hoses from self destructing.

I put 2 sets on my AT last year and used dry.
Did you buy yours new or used?
I bought mine new and they have a TON of fall in them to help reversion as well.
Basically the tailpipe gets epoxyed and bolted to the header and the rubber sleeve goes around that. Mine have a 1/4" hole inside the pipe to let some water come out to appear wet, but other than that there is a 3/4" 90* fitting on top of the tailpipe inside the boat where the rest of the water comes out. So youll have to install dumps outta the back of the transom somewhere and run hoses from the fitting to the dumps. The tailpipe itself goes through a hole in the transom and you use a rubber "gasket" and a metal retainer ring to hide the hole.
Heres a pic of my transom so you can see what im talking about.

Heres a vid
