Default cmi headers 496ho one hot one cold, Also oil leak

so i pulled my boat out of the water because i have been going through a quart of oil every 45min or run time. I hooked my boat up to a hose and when i was running the engine to try to find the leak i noticed that my starboard side header was cool to the touch but the port side was hot as hell. I checked for water leaks and did not see any. Is this because of running it on a hose and it sucks more through that side? i never noticed this on the water. Also water was coming out of both exhaust pipes along with under the drive

Also where the hell would oil be leaking from? when engine was running i could not find a leak at all

i checked under the oil filter, checked the block where the oil drain hose is connected, checked the end of the oil drain hose, everything looked good.

when boat was in water it showed oil maybe 1/4in on the dip stick, now when boat is out of water oil is above the add line , maybe 5in on the dip stick.

is the oil milky?

could be losing it from a couple places.

1. Oil cooler
2. Burning it (do a compression test)

when boat is running and in water is your exhaust spraying rainbows?

oil is not milky, it is dark on the dip stick.

where is the oil cooler?

engine only has 200 hours on it i cannot imagine it would be burning oil, and have never seen dark smoke

i do see oil sitting on top in the bilge area and when i go to use the bilge i see oil on top of the water when i run it

Internal leak on the oil cooler. Check the tail pipes/drive for oil residue. If it is clogged it will also cause a hot port side exhaust.

The absolutly exact problem I am having port side exhaust is hot as hell and I'm I can see oil dropping from one of the watered lines that is supposed to cool the exhaust. So how do I correct this ???

heat exchanger end cap gaskets bad especially on the hot side. They are maintenance items - I would not go more than 4 to 5 years on them period.
if not that do you still have the check valves / aka check balls still on your app ?

possible not enough water flow - impeller good and all other related cooling parts

you have not posted your year model and serial number of the engine.

Have to add ALL marine engines go by serial number for proper parts and set up plus service procedures. a 2001 496 is not the same as 2004 496 nor is a 2006 496 the same as those past years and a 2008 California 496 is totally different and a 2010 496 is different than all the rest, Boat owners keep this mind.

Anyways if you have a mid to early 496 your oil leak can be the intake gaskets, They are junk form GM and very thin. They changed the design of the intake gaskets to a second gen in which were a lot better and no more missing oil levels.

Or possible oil cooler - you can pressure test it even while its still on the engine if you have the access to do so.

I will check serial number when I get back by boat.

how would I know if end heat exchanger gasket is bad? Can I tell by taking cap off and looking at it?

also where is oil cooler located?

and would I be able to see oil leaking from intake gasket?
