I currently have a 2013 F250. It has an extra leaf in the back with 38" Toyos. It pulls my 42 Nordic Inferno very well. It is right at max towing capacity, but I have never felt "in trouble" with it. The trailer does have very good brakes and the triple axle tracks very well down the road. I did have to upgrade the receiver hitch to handle the tongue weight.
It is about time to get a new truck and I am torn in which way to go.
Option 1: 2017 F350 setup similar to my current truck. These new trucks have more power than my 2013 and are rated to tow 18,000 pounds. Thus I am confident it will be as good as my current truck. The only thing I am a little concerned about is the aluminum cab. I also am not sure I like the body style as much.
Option 2: 2017 F650 pickup. This would be a 2WD setup with super singles. This truck would be a little
less "common" which is a plus. What I really like are the large stainless fuel tanks and the standard height without the need of a lift kit. I also shouldn't have to worry about replacing ball joints and tie rods at 100k miles like the f250/f350 models commonly need when they are lifted.
With either option, the truck would be my daily driver. I drive 30 miles one way to work each day most of which is highway. I drive about 30,000 miles total each year. If I go with the F350, I will drive it for about 120k miles. The F650 I would probably hold on to it a bit longer mileage wise.
Does anybody have any input that has gone through the same choice?
As this would be my daily driver, what can I expect to see mileage wise? I currently get right at 15 mpg on my F250 unloaded. I know the F650 will be less than that as it is 5,000 pounds heavier. Just looking for an idea of what to expect.
Obviously insurance is a little tricky, but most seem to get something figured out for a reasonable premium.
Appreciate any other input any of you may have.

You don't want an F650 for a DD. They are great trucks, but the ride will not be pleasurable.
I am likely going with a 2018 F-350, but I am quite disappointed with the turning radius on the 2017 Ford SuperDutys, specifically the long bed and crew cab configuration. That stretched wheel base as significantly increased the turning radius which sucks. Living in Texas, probably not a big deal, but if you have to drive in the city a lot; you will notice how bad it is. The F-450/550/650 turning radius is actually smaller than the F-350.

I had a 2010 F350 dually and had to debate the new dually/650 swap as well. The $70k++ for a new dually was a huge factor since I got a 2008 F650 Extreme for about that with 12k miles.
The 650 would be a rougher daily driver without question. The 650 will ALWAYS be enough truck. It's LOUD and obnoxious. Much better if you like attention and It makes lifted 350s look like toys.
Since you are considering a new 650 it should have all the tech the 350 has in the dash. That was the one thing I had to upgrade since I bought an '08. You can't go wrong either way.
If you know someone that will let you roll a 650 for a day or two that might help.

I have heard concerns about the turning radius on the long bed models. Most of the places I go I have not had issues, but even taking my current truck to some of the ball games, etc can get tight. We usually opt for taking my wife's F-150 if we anticipate a crowded parting situation.
I have not had issues with needed 4WD when pulling the Nordic out of ramps, but most of the ramps I have used are pretty good. I have needed 4WD when pulling out my other boat (fishing setup) a couple of times, but the ramps have been marginal a few times with it. When I spoke to Chris at Supertrucks last year he said the weight of the F650 negated the need for 4WD. If I go an F350 it will be 4WD for sure.
I have lightly considered going with both if I can find a good deal on an F-650 or just keeping the truck I have now and adding an F-650 to the garage. Many of the trucks out there are highly customized thus highly driving up the asking prices (although true selling price might be significantly less). I did see a 2008 F650 Excursion setup for sale with lower miles. But they still want $139k for it. That just seems like a lot for a 10 year old vehicle....

I watched a dually in park with the parking brake on slide down a ramp in Port Lavaca. Luckily they got the foot brake on before the front tires reached the green part of the ramp.
