I'm thinking about stepping up from a Velocity 280 and having a Y2K race hull built. I was wondering how much bulsa core and marine grade plywood is currently used in the lightweight Y2K race hull construction ?

I imagine the stern is spruce but wasn't sure how much other wood is in the boat.

I would call John at Superboat and get the story straight from him. He will answer his phone. I do know they are built strong. I had a Y2K for 5 yrs. and a 24 for 10yrs. and not a single stress crack or other structure issue on either.

I will second Dave M above. Give them a call they are great to talk to honest and upfront. I have a 2005 which I have had for 4 years now and I also do not have one stress crack anywhere on it let alone structural issues. Of all the boats I have owned previously (22 velocity, 2 x 33 fountains, 38 cigarette TG straight bottom, 45 sonic, and a 26 express cat) the y2k is the only one that hasn't cracked on me and is the most comfortable except for the sonic which has a 26 degree V and was 45 feet to be fair. I for the life of me can't figure out why John doesn't have back orders for these of a year or more but at least it keeps them affordable for these of us that know what they are.

I have a 2004... Y2K...I also have no stress crack's....rides like a larger boat...easy on gas...easy to work on...runs 84-86 with a 598 bbc

Thanks for all of the replies, I called and talked to John recently but didn't want to tie him up on the phone too long with a million questions. I figured I'd try to do some research in the forums first. For what I'm looking to build, I think a Y2K would be about spot on.

There are several build threads on here that have detailed pic's . He uses a fair amount of wood . Transom , Floors , Bulkheads . I hope you're not letting the use of wood deter you from building or buying a Y2K

I have an '01 race hull. Just like the others, not 1 stress crack, not 1 rattle!! Rock solid! You will break before the boat does!!

And you should definitely waste Coen's time and ask him a million questions!!

I also have a Y2K, mine is a 2005 model and it also has not a single stress crack anywhere. It is a testament to their engineering and construction. These are very solid boats.
