I'm trying to decide if I'm better off trying to get my existing prop tuned in, or through testing just buy a new prop that works better. I have a Velocity 280 with about 700hp and I desperately need to get the right prop for it. I had hit something awhile back and had to have the drive rebuilt and sent the prop to BBlades because one of the blades was off about .100. I had them straighten the blade and increase the pitch while doing a mild lab on it. Just over $600 later I finally get some decent water to really test it out and it's horrible, any trim and it porpoises and chine walks like a bucking bronco above 60. I contacted BBlades and they want another $250+ to remove the cup they added. I realize that prop tuning is an iterative process but $250+ every time is way more expensive than the $50 they charge to test a prop. At this rate I know I will have $500-$750 additional in the prop before I'm close. I've talked to Cutting Edge and they will sell me a prop and make any adjustments for free. I've spent a ton of time and money getting everything else just right I want to make sure I'm headed down the right path. I have an old Hydro-Motive prop, that I had them add some pitch to and it runs pretty good. I just have take it easy getting on plane or I blow it out and I hit the 6k rev limiter pretty hard on the top end. Mid speed acceleration is absolutely amazing. I'm looking for advice on which path to go down. I want to have a decision made and a prop in hand when the ice melts so i can actually enjoy a full season of boating.

I don't believe I actually talked to you. If I did there must be something I'm missing here. Call me and let's revisit this.
Brett
FYI, Hydromotive has very little inventory and probably wont till well into 2018 as they lost there foundry.

Called for Brett, but spoke to Brad and he told me the same thing... repair 1.5hrs each and then rpm adjustment is a couple more hours regardless if already labbed, so over 400 for each... First i heard of the 60 day thing.. also didnt help as I had mine done in the winter.
Not to hijack, but i feel your pain... not sure what to do....

I am in the same predicament... My props were labbed by bblades and i have a couple minor nicks on 1 and both have a couple dings on them (nothing big enough to affect performance) and also need to adjust them as I apparently had engine codes since I bought my boat and am now fixed that shes running a just over 5k with full fuel, gear and several people.. also add flat water and 90 degree weather so i need to add some bow lift and shave 150-200 rpms off to get my cruise back up.

I’m not sure if this helps but my old 27 fountain with 600+ hp had a 5 blade hydro 28 pitch and I loved it. It was more of a midrange prop but that’s what I like because how often do you go WOT? 3k rpm I was in the 50s mph range. Planned quick. 79 mph top. 75 close to full tank and 4 people.

nailit,
I'm not looking at your file as I am at home working but,
Same predicament?? I don't think so.
Let me get this straight. You had your props Labbed by us last winter. You ran them all summer long. You dinged and dented them. You determined you had engine issues after we did the work. But you initially sent them to us with the performance data before you determined the engines had issues. You did not read the information on your invoice discussing the 60 day potential free adjustments and now you want BBLADES to step up and repair and adjust your personally induced damage and desired performance adjustments for free?
Anybody else seem to find this over the top?
jtbooten,
5 blades on Baja's will decrease bow lift and speed. They will make the boat run very wetted. Tough to compare a 27 Fountain to a 33 Baja Outlaw. Or any size Outlaw for that matter.

Also, he is speaking of a 280 velocity. Where did the 33 Baja outlaw come from??
