Default DCB Tests First Mercury 860-Powered Boat, A Gorgeous M31 Widebody

The teams at DCB Performance Boats and Mercury Racing appear to be remarkably pleased with their first round of “dialing in” DCB’s first boat powered by a pair of Mercury Racing’s new 860 engines—a gorgeous M31 Widebody headed to Canada early next year.

$90,000 difference between the 860s and the 700sci? That’s 45K a motor difference? Holy moly. No wonder why the sport boat market is hurting. I’ll stick with my 525 and a Whipple. Wish they could design the throttle bodies/filter intakes a little better too.

So the 700sci was one of Mercury’s best selling motors and they give it the axe?

Back when the 700's first became available to the public someone ordered a new cat with a set with the intention of replacing them with big power before they even ran the boat. That set of brand-new, takeout, zero hour 700's were listed in the classifieds for like $25K each. One of the best deals I've ever seen on OSO. I'd love to put a set of 860's in my Donzi. Maybe someday a takeout set will show in the classifieds in similar fashion - or at least I can dream about it

I'm sure they sound wicked, can't wait to see those puppies in action on Youtube. Also I'd bet the drives last much longer than their boosted cousins.

i wonder if the 860's would even fit in your donzi with their massive size. I've been told they won't fit in a 39 top gun unless they short stagger them. If that's true it would be hard to retrofit older boats. With the 700 being done not sure what's going to happen with the top gun. It would be a waste of a boat with 565's

take your 525 EFI add a color matched 3.3 Whpple and you have a 700.................just like the 502's the 700 will be around a long time, they just wont be new.

All are I believe. Isn't that the main difference between the 38 TS and the 39?.

Thanks for the info - I had no idea the 860s had that issue. What are they so wide?
