Default Hardin Marine oil filter mount leak fest

Running the vertical mount with the big filter and have used both Moroso and K&N and both leak horribly. This is a new build and this is only from priming the engine. Oil leaking out of where the filter meets the mount. No imperfections on the mount side perfectly smooth and very tight. Looks nice but hate leaks. Anyone else have this issue?

I posted about the same issue here before. I even emailed Hardin about it but no response. I put some uv dye in the oil and shined a black light on it and it was actually an invisible leak coming from the fitting and threads above it pooling on the lip of the filter. I tried new fittings, different sealers, under torquing, over torquing with not much luck. I ran into other issues before getting to the bottom of it but I hate the friggin mess.

How exactly did it fail?

Try this, clean the filter head matting surface real good. Take a new filter and barely apply a thin film of oil on the gasket. Screw filter on until the gasket just touches the filter head. Remove it and see if there is an imprint of the gasket on the surface all around

It looks like the gasket is overlapping the flange, not good

I have used both the bigger and smaller filter you can run with this setup and even the smaller filter leaks out of the same area around the gasket. I have taken it off and on more times than I care to count to try and see why. Seal looks perfect with both size filters but I agree the bigger filter does overlap the flange. Sucks as these are not cheap. Hate to even say it but was considering a light smear of RTV on the gasket.

Same here. I kept trying different filters at ~$30 a pop.
