Big Poppa, I have a 1985 22 foot Velocity, up till 1999 I used to run a 1985 300Hp 3.4 on it. My top speed was 80mph. The key areas that really wake up this combo are: A 6'' setback plate and a 6" hydraulic jack plate.Have Bobs Machine shop or another company put a low water pickup and nose cone on your lower unit. Put a foot throttle in it and Sea Star hydraulic steering. I ran my best speeds with a 26"4 blade Merten cleaver. Hope this info helps. Frank

done all that ,and got 82mph , the problem i have is the steering
locks up (can't move)freezes about 63 mph thats with it 1 to 1 1/2
below the pad , same steering as yours , replace it with hi- perf.
helm not that much differents.
call velocity actually talk to steve stepp , he said they try a300x
went around 100 mph with a four blade trophy , but did not get
to play with it that much.

Big Poppa, I switched over to a Pro Max300 in 1999 and the best top speed I was able to see was 85 with a 4blade 26" Spinelli, with the engine set at 1" below the bottom of the pad. Last summer when I was up at Mercury Racing in Fond Du Lac,they had 2 Velocity 22's that they use for testing the 300x. The engineer I was talking to that runs the boats said he sees 87 tops out of the 300x using a 26" Trophy Plus. I know Steve Stepp is the "Guru" but I am wondering how they see 100 mph using the 300x.If this is the case I would sell my 300 and get the x motor in a minute.

Hey 22velocity, I have a 22 with twim Merc 200hp's. The boat was known as the Joker when raced by Art Lilly. The best speed I have seen is about 79 but my props are all wrong. I had to put a new power head on this summer so that is where the money for props went. The boat has no cabin it is all fiberglass stringers and bulk heads. The boat has no jack plates but the motors are very high on the transom. If I were to rerig the boat I would put jack plates on. It also has low water pick ups external steering with all kinds of cool little features that makes the boat really strong. I am now at a point where I am thinking about selling it and buying a 30' Velocity. But this boat is built so well that I would hate to get rid of it. I might restore this boat to orginal Joker conditon with two new motors basically rerig the whole boat. I also have thought about putting a single pro max 300 on it but it is already rigged for two so I would keep it that way. I will get more pics up this weekend. Hope this helps.

Velocity Mike, The 22 that I have was the twin boat to one that was built for Burt Reynolds, except mine does not have the "toupee savers"on the windshield that he had on his boat . Stepp did a beautiful job with blue fades on the deck and gunnel areas. I bought mine when it was one year old. I have really enjoyed this 22 over the years. A few years ago in Hot Boat magazine thier was a 22 in New York state with two 2.5,s.He ran 117 with his rig. I called and talked to him, he went through and extensively re-inforced the transom and stringers with extruded Aluminum . what a wild ride that boat would be. Frank
