Looked at it all day and can’t find where this wire goes. Hp500 w/thunderbolt V carb. It is item 8 on this parts diagram.

Ground wire from the bell house stud to somewhere...that I can’t find. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same question on my center forward engine in my triple. It is there, unplugged, not long enough to go to transom because the center engine is like what 3-4 feet away from transom? Wire is like 10 inches in fact, so too short to reach batteries on either side, and cant find a small enough bolt to put the wire eye on...
mistery....
but if you do find i will sure read your answer! My boat still runs fine without it meanwhile...

That is part of the mercathode grounding for all Bravo drives. It goes from the bell housing (battery ground post) to the transom plate. There are others just like it which are different lengths that connect the tiller arm to the transom plate, gimbal ring to bell housing, etc. Standard for stern drives, but not long enough for any other app

mercruiser grounds all systems whether you have mercathode or not. Example even the steering arm grounds to the inner transom plate and the transom plate grounds to the back side engine ground stud. The back side engine stud grounds to the neg. side of battery and so on.
his ground lead goes to the back side engine ground stud
for the guy with the center engine ( 3 engines ) the neg lead jumpers to closest inner transom plate of the other engines that is grounded. properly from however most likely from back side engine ground studs.
