Default Latham Helm Steering leak - looking for advice

I have an external Latham steering that is leaking at the helm (Input shaft). The leak seems to be where the tilt steering shaft enters the main helm unit. I have not yet removed the steering wheel assembly to see, but I suspect there may be a seal in this area. I contacted Latham and they do not offer any parts but do offer a complete helm unit at the cost of $1800.
I was hoping someone came across a similar situation and can provide some guidance before I take apart.

Thank you

I'd bet you can pull that seal and match it up at an industrial supply house, before you pull it, study it for a part number. if no number then the dimensions can be used, there may be inner and outer seals, any hydraulic repair facility could likely do the work for you or supply parts.

If its the capilano helm its available from multiple sources as are parts

IIRC Keith Atlanta recommended a hydraulic shop in your area to a member on here a couple years back. Maybe he will chime in..........

Unit looks like this https://shop.hamiltonmarine.com/prod...012-14707.html
I believe it is called Char Lynn. I will give it some time to see if anyone else responds with success or if Keith Atlanta responds. I dont want to tear into just yet and find that I am stuck on land til I fix it, if you know what I mean.

Thanks for the responses, keep em comin :-)

Get the numbers off the hand metering unit itself and you can find a reasonably priced replacement with the same configuration....

I went from a single ram to a dual ram steering setup and went with this unit.. works GREAT !

And I didn't realize that helm I bought from you was the 5.9 and not the 7.3 ..But that's my fault for not double checking.. Oh well , and extra turn on the wheel.

Fork trucks use char lynne helms. Standard parts at local hydraulic hose and fitting companies.
Central hydraulic Inc in Daytona Beach has the helm parts in stock. Good luck

Hey Guys,

Seem to be running into road blocks with the unit. Called a couple of Hydraulic supply shops and no one has worked o these units before, but hard to believe I am the only one running into this problem or need this unit rebuilt. Not sure what to expect if I break open the unit to do a DIY, so has anyone done this before?
Like I said its a small leak but now it is really annoying me.

Thanks
