Default Bravo XR Shifting

Long story short...starboard motor has been finicky going into reverse. Would only go in if we bumped rpms. Granted this only happened a few times. Forward seems to work ok. Performed oil changes yesterday on drive and motors. While we were on hose decided to play with shifter. Put it into reverse 6 or 7 times...each time it worked perfectly. Why does it work out of the water but not in the water? Kind of odd? Any insight to what we should check. Was gonna play with cable adjustment. Thanks

disconnect the drive shift cable from the shift bracket and manually shift it while in the water and see how it does, if it works ok adjust as needed, otherwise,I assume props turn out ?, if so, I’ve had the keepers that go into the clutch shaft (that holds the collar )get beat up/ hammered a bit and cause a delay or a very smooths shift.

Agree^^^
Check your adjustment, and note the 3 inch dimension. No need for the other tool, you can feel the shift F/N/R and find the center for the barrel nut
